I am trying to create new maintenance plans to mirror sql 2000 plans. Trying to add a subplan but i have no option to add or even name a subplan, the task is missing from the toolbox, can anyone help?
Books online states;
.....
The Toolbox opens, and the <Maintenance Plan Name> [Design] surface opens with the default Subplan_1created. Optionally enter a description for the entire plan on the Design tab.
Double-click Subplan_1, and enter a name and description for the subplan in the Subplan Properties dialog box. Click the Subplan Schedule icon to enter schedule details in the Job Schedule Properties dialog box
...but when i do create a new plan, there is nothign stating 'subplan_1' ...

Hi dems01,
The ability to add subplans was added in SP2, and the UI that Books Online refers to is available starting in SP2. Are you running the SQL 2005 SP2 version of the tools?
Also, if you're migrating SQL 2000 plans, have you tried using the upgrade wizard to automatically recreate these plans in the SQL 2005 format? You can see the legacy SQL 2000 plans in Management Studio, under the Management -> Legacy -> Database Maintenance Plans folder. This folder shows you the SQL 2000 plans that were on this server when you upgraded it to SQL 2005. If you right-click on these plans, there is an option to upgrade the plan. This will create a new SQL 2005 plan that mirrors what the SQL 2000 plan did, leaving the SQL 2000 plan itself untouched. If you use this feature, please do install the SP2 version of the tools so that the migrated plan gets the subplan support.
Hope this helps,
James [MSFT]
|||Thanks James, the server had SP2 applied, but my local tools were still on SP1, installed and it all works now.. well the plan design screen freezes quite a lot for no reason, but at least i can add subplans now.
Thanks again
